When I work with someone thinking about purchasing real estate, I counsel them to to all of their research first. This means selecting their real estate team: real estate attorney, home inspector, CPA (to help them calculate their tax savings and what they can safely afford AND to prepare their taxes once they purchase), Insurance Broker (to help them calculate the correct property coverages), a Trusts & Estates attorney (to, at the very least, create a will) and a Life Insurance professional. As they go through the process, I also try to introduce them to other important businesses they may need in the future so that they are scrambling during an emergency.
