When You Call Me a Slave Rabayan! Rabayan! I heard the slave master call I heard him scream I am black and you are black. Rabayan! Rabayan! he called I hear him say I am rich I hear him say you are poor I hear him say I am the possessor He said I will possess all that is yours He saw me lurking in a corner timid of his strange breath Mingled with thick scents of religious hypocrisy and youthful lust He kicked my butt and said rabbit “can’t you hear me call you” He said I will take all that belongs to you He boasted He said I am the pirate of peaceful holidays The robber that steals blossoming hopes The raven of evil tidings He said I am the vulture and I shall feed on your carcass. Locked in my timidity I said “take all that I have’’ But do not take my mind My mind, my mind The forge of my creativity The forge of pleasant hopes Tomorrow I will not answer your call For masters and slaves are not friend They are only united in a forced relationship You may confuse the world But you cannot confuse my mind Friend and fiends Meets through diplomacy But they are paths to different woods
