When laymen squawk about how I play scrabble and spew the classic - TopicsExpress

When laymen squawk about how I play scrabble and spew the classic those arent even words!, my response to them is: They are words to someone, if only a small fraction of the English speaking population. It is hard to draw a threshold of usability, but it doesnt matter, AS LONG AS EVERYONE IS USING THE SAME DICTIONARY. So it confuses me why this group is moaning to the ends of the earth. Some complain that GEOCACHE wont affect the game enough. Others complained that EW would have affected the game too much, people talk about probability and playability to balance the metric and even the right of every word making it in to scrabble. It really doesnt matter regardless how you look at it. Its very interesting to see peoples opinions but I dont understand why they feel so strongly about them? It seems like there is just a strong universal subtext of possessiveness over the game. We dont want other people to interfere with our game. Fair enough, but lets pick our battles. I think we totally have a net positive on our hands here. The number of people subscribed to Hasbro Game Night skyrocketed. That is going to translate into publicity for us and it already has. With the huge amount of mathematical minds present, myself included, we underestimate the silly nuances of marketing. I myself thought it was a great move by Hasbro. I was a little disappointed by the starting lineup but was surprised with the ability of the general public to actually put the deserving words in to the later rounds. I think this would be a great thing to do every year. Now there is an unpopular opinion if Ive ever had one.
