When rumors are started, as always, it can hurt those involved. Id like to remind everyone that the funds we are raising are to help Shelby Elizabeth James and her mother, Tammy Bechtel James. As soon as we knew results of Shelbys original MRI and that she would have to go to Indianapolis for brain surgery, we immediately ordered items to help raise funds to help them. Tammy did not get paid during the time she was off work for Shelbys surgery and recovery and Shelby was off work for 8-weeks, also unpaid. During that time, they still had rent, bills, insurance premiums, co-pays, gas for travel, etc. The initial funds we raised were to help cover those expenses they were off. We continue to sell koozies and wristbands, will be having a spaghetti dinner this Friday at Catlin Masonic Lodge (graciously planned by them), and will have additional fundraiser in July and the benefit on August 16th. Tammy is back to work and is taking care of her household bills, just as she always has in the past, on her own. Shelby returned to work Tuesday on a limited schedule. That doesnt mean all is normal. Like the wristbands and koozies say, The journey had just begun. This is just the beginning for Shelby. Shelbys MRI, recently completed, shows only a 50% reduction in the tumor from the original size. She is waiting to hear when they will begin radiation and for how long. We dont know yet if they will have to do other interventions at this time or in the near future. This means she may miss work for treatments or side effects from it, again, unpaid. She has a large amount insurance will not be paying for. The funds ar e not being used for anything other than what has been mentioned above. So please, friends and family, if you hear rumors, please explain and put an end to the rumor. Shelbys journey has just begun. Please continue to show your love and support to her.
