When teachers plan to attend a conference of workshop, they are able to recommend specific subs in their absence. There is a list of available substitutes on the electronic portal used to request absences for both sick leave and professional leave. In setting up their accounts for the year, teachers noticed many of the best substitutes – long time teachers or retired teachers from the district – are no longer on the list. Substitute teachers that have been used for years, who always took great care of the class in the teacher’s absence were no longer available. And the list is a whole lot shorter.
