When the Blathering Idiots of Liberalism Hall of Fame is - TopicsExpress

When the Blathering Idiots of Liberalism Hall of Fame is established, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz will be elected on the first ballot. Unanimously. That is, of course, unless he’s ruled ineligible – by reason of insanity. Lest you doubt my prediction – or think I’m being unreasonably cruel to Ed Schultz – consider Ed’s take on why Detroit is “dead,” as he venomously calls it. Pundits have blamed everything from Democratic mayors and corrupt city councils to racial issues to the United Auto Workers (UAW) to the car companies for the collapse of Detroit. Not Ed. On Planet Ed, the “death” of Detroit is the fault of one thing and one thing alone: Republican “parasites.” Angry Ed has been on a virtual non-stop campaign for weeks – blaming Detroit’s woes and recent bankruptcy filing on Republican policies. (Never mind the fact that the Motor City has been governed by Democrats for more than 50 years.) From NewsBusters: Schultz’s latest tirade came on Saturday’s The Ed Show, when the left-wing host bizarrely claimed that Republicans have “taken democracy away from Detroit.” Schultz further suggested that Republicans “circumvent(ed) local elections in this country” and “discard(ed) what people want and say about their communities.” (Um, what?) “The people who once built the cars won’t get the pensions they were promised, but the big automakers are doing just fine, after we help them out with federal money? But for the worker? Well, to hell with the workers. Workers don’t mean anything. This is the conservative utopia.” Whoa. Let’s back up the bus a minute, Ed. The “federal money”, of which you speak, bailed out the UAW – and its workers – at least as much as it bailed out the “big automakers.” Were it not for the bailout, unionized autoworkers in Detroit and across the country would have been up the proverbial creek without a paddle, pal. (See: Unionized Twinkies bakers.) Besides, I’m pretty sure you were a HUGE supporter of the bailout – as were virtually all Democrats, including those in the UAW – weren’t you? P.S. Most Republicans opposed the DEMOCRATIC bailout of the car companies, Ed. (Look it up.) Schultz’s diatribe became even more hysterical: “Conservatives are using the most insulting language possible that they can come up with to blame unions, blame black people, blame their culture, for Detroit’s troubles.” Anyone who has watched Ed Schlutz for even a nanosecond knows that for this guy to accuse ANYONE of using “the most insulting language possible” is hypocrisy off the hook. It gets worse: Union-busting is the real parasite. Conservative policies which help businesses out for years – and are now saying, we don’t want to fund public education. We’re not going to go down that road to health care. We don’t care what those workers did for all those years. These are the real parasites who gutted Detroit. Where does one even begin to respond to such ridiculous nonsense? I lived in the Detroit area for a number of years – during the time Douglas Frasier ruled the UAW with an iron fist. Frasier brought the car companies to their knees, numerous times. And, the city – and future – of Detroit as well. Moreover, he did it all at precisely the wrong time – the time when Japanese automakers were seriously beginning to challenge Detroit’s dominance. The rest is history. Ed Schultz is a punk. He has no idea what he’s talking about. And, like all good left-wingers, he connects dots that aren’t there. But hey, he’s preaching to the choir, right?
