When the government shuts down, it apparently clamps a lid on - TopicsExpress

When the government shuts down, it apparently clamps a lid on common sense, too… That story next…One thing the shutdown has accomplished is to make Americans think about how much government we have, whether we need it all, and whether the people running it have two brain cells to rub together. For instance, they’re out of money, yet they spend more to barricade memorials and trees and even the ocean than to keep all those things open. There was a report that the flow of new federal regulations has slowed to a trickle – as if they expected Americans to be upset about that. “Non-essential government workers’ were renamed “non-exempt from furlough” workers, to protect their feelings and, coincidentally, to stop reminding us of how much non-essential government we have. And federal workers were told it’s illegal to use their own email accounts, even to tell subordinates when the shutdown is over. If they really can’t even figure out when the government is back, then we really do have too much non-essential government.
