When women succeed, America succeeds! That’s why I was proud to visit two women-led businesses in our 40th District Friday afternoon. First, I had a delicious lunch at Avilas El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant in Huntington Park, and thanked Margarita Avila and her staff. Im proud to have the original location of Margaritas multi-generational business in my district. The family now has 11 locations throughout Southern California! Next, I toured Bowers and Sons Cleaners in South L.A., where I got an up-close lesson in the dry-cleaning process. The business owner, Vivian Bowers, took over the family business in 1994, and has kept it in operation through good and bad economies alike. If successful businesswomen like Margarita and Vivian can continue to build and sustain thriving enterprises in our 40th District, the economic future of our communities will look very bright indeed. To quote the Democrats’ Middle Class Jumpstart economic plan: “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds.” We can also further jumpstart our middle class by guaranteeing equal pay for equal work, ensuring paid sick leave, and increasing access to affordable child care.
