Where Does the Water Come from? Poland Springs (Nestle): When you look on their website, you will see a paragraph telling you that their water comes from (PS. 2012): [t]he beautiful State of Maine [which] holds the ancient aquifers currently responsible for Poland Spring® Brand Natural Spring Water’s distinctive taste. Created by a retreating glacier 20,000 years ago, these aquifers are some of nature’s best purification systems. Continuously fed by water from rainfall and melting snow, the water percolates through layers of fine sand and gravel to produce spring water with a clean, crisp, refreshing taste. Poland Spring® Brand Natural Spring Water is naturally salt-free. An A class-action suit that was brought against Poland Springs questioned the sources of water they use. The water itself was not being pumped from the actual spring: it was being pumped through boreholes that were a couple thousand feet away. Dasani (Coca Cola): Their water source was listed as (Dasani. 2013) “starting with the local water supply, which is then filtered for purity using a state-of-the-art process called reverse osmosis.” An article found online said that it was just fancy sounding tap water because there was no source or spring listed. Perrier (Nestle): This water is from North of the Vergèze bottling facility in the “Garrigues de Nîmes,” which is protected by layers of rock and clay which is what filters the water. Fiji: The water is drawn naturally from the ground and is filtered naturally in Fiji. Brockton Tap: The Brockton water supply comes from the surrounding area. (EPA. 2012) “Brockton has two active drinking water reservoirs and one inactive drinking water well.”
