Where were you, when the world stopped turning? I was 15 years - TopicsExpress

Where were you, when the world stopped turning? I was 15 years old and in 10th grade, and had just walked into Spanish class. A classmate walked up to me and told me that a plane had just flown into the World Trade Center. I remember that my first thought and statement was it must have been a pilot error. The classmate told me that it was believed to be a terrorist attack, but I was skeptical. My then teacher, Ms. Kotzan, flipped on the TV in our classroom and turned on the news. Right as she flipped on the channel, I watched as the plane hit the second tower. I was in complete and utter shock, as was everyone around me. My mom came and got me from school that morning, as had most other parents and their kids. I remember receiving a phone call from my Dad saying that his base was on lock-down and no one was allowed to leave. He didnt know when he would be coming home. I remember watching the news reports, all the speculation over who could be responsible for this and why. I remember hearing the name Osama bin Laden for the first time. It was a name I would never forget, nor would any American in the near future. In the days to come, I remember seeing all Americans unite. Flags were on every front porch in town. Musicians were writing songs about American pride. There was no black, no white, nor christian or atheist. There was no Republican or Democrat, no liberal or conservative. In that moment, we were all Americans. We were TRULY The United States of America. Though most will never forget the loved ones lost, the workers in the towers, the Pentagon, or the brave souls lost in Shanksville, or the soldiers killed in combat defending our freedom, it seems that we have forgotten what it means to be American. I miss the days of our United States where everyone was united in the hopes of helping and being there for one another. We are now a nation divided. We are now white, black, catholic, atheist, republican, democrat, liberal, or conservative. Some will never forget the pain they felt watching those horrific acts take place. I will never forget the pride I felt to be an American in the days that followed. #Wherewereyou #911Anniversary #NeverForget
