Whether we like it or not, what we do affects others, directly or indirectly, immediately or eventually. People see what we do and it draws them closer to God or shifts them further away. We are not independent, we are interdependent. Jesus prayed for us to “be one as we are one” (John 17:11). God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are three distinct persons with distinct roles and areas of responsibility, yet they are in COMPLETE unity, so much so that they are ONE. They co-operate perfectly with each other with mutual respect and love. In order to be one like God is one, we must also co-operate with one another with mutual respect and love.
