While I appreciate this, Im just going to say that Apple usually gets two things right other companies dont: timing and experience. Sure Google introduced predictive text 3 years ago, and its been mildly helpful in speeding up wpm for android users. BUT instead of Apple just adding a mildly helpful feature, theyve waited and built a context aware, natural language processing, super feature that will likely blow the Android experience out of the water. This is the long standing pattern with the iPhone since its first release. It was late to the smartphone party with devices like the treo and blackberry launching first, but by the time it did launch, BOOM the experience they presented was so polished everyone started drooling! (And trying to figure out how to get out of their contracts to switch to AT&T). Ultimately, widgets, custom keyboards and predictive text werent needed to get iPhone to where it is today. The market at the time was a lot of new-to-smartphone users -- they didnt need these power features cluttering up their experience. In 2009 Apples main market wasnt demanding anything, they were completely enthralled with what was being presented. Now, more of that market is more experienced and nuanced in understanding its smartphone demands, and Apple is responding on time with a quality experience. Theres no shame in prioritizing tertiary features that the majority of your users wont use/dont need.
