While I get the message and think that in a lot of ways it is true, I have connected and met and enjoy many friends online that I would never have met in real life, right Cat Palmer? F. Renee? Erika? Ralph? Layandu Sherpa? John Skakel? I have learned and explored many new ideas, was introduced to new places, books and experiences through my online activities. I have traveled, enjoyed the company of new and old friends, created, read and listened to new music, art shopping and theater. I have been able to reconnect with old friends and been introduced to new far away nieces and nephews. I have been able to use my words, consider their weight,argue a point, and express my opinions and emotions. Why is this so much more evil than a diary or a journal?People have been writing, drawing and expressing themselves, never knowing if it is heard, since the cavemen felt compelled to create their drawings. So,while I get the part about putting aside the phone so that you stay in and experience the moment, no, I dont buy into the anti- technology wave. Some have commented about using the phone camera to record the moment? People have sketched and then taken photos, forever. And yes, it would be great if our kids could play outside as we did growing up but THIS is not real!Our parents never had to constantly supervise us as parents do today in most places. As always, teach and use balance and moderation in everything. I use this wonderful technology to augment, introduce and enhance my life experience and dont plan on setting it aside just yet!
