While I had a great time with PULASKI shipmates in Charleston at the Reunion this weekend, I did not have such a fun time on the way home. I had a casualty with the rear end on my truck that nearly threw me of the road early Sunday morning. (I can hear my friend Don Eastwood already slamming my Chevy!) Not sure what let loose in the rear end, but at 75 mph and a large bang, with smoke billowing out, I thought at first the engine had blown up and the truck was going to burn to a crisp. Thankfully I was able to pull over without hitting anyone, and let it cool down and stop smoking out of the axle. I then drove 9 miles on the shoulder of the road (I know - not the smartest thing I have ever done in my life - but I am a cheap bastard and I hated to think about the towing bill) with flashers on at 12 mph (probably picked up every nail, screw and sharp thingamabob in my tires!) and managed to get off at exit 8 in SC where there was a Dunkin Donuts (Hey - ya gotta have priorities!) My thanks and gratitude go out to my good friend Greg Lockhart (Who by the way turns the BIG Five Ohhhh next Sunday for those of you who know him !!!!) for driving up from St. Marys, GA and rescuing me. We managed to get my truck to Reichenbach Chevrolet (which was closed - Thank God for night drop boxes - as you might expect a Sunday) in Okatie, SC and then headed home. Now I have to call at 0830 this morning when they open to let them know why this Black Chevy truck with Camden County Georgia tags is hanging out in their parking lot! :) I may need to take up a collection later - yall save all your spare change for me please! LOL :) Have a great day everyone, Happy Monday! And HAPPY NAVY BIRTHDAY to all my fellow Navy Veterans!
