While most of you here will most probably identify your council with the cartoons, Keighley town council made the news with how it behaves. Keighley News, 12 September 2008 Conflict resolution training has been offered to Keighley town councillors to help them sort out any differences. The two-hour evening course in how to handle disputes was announced by Bradford Council monitoring officer Suzan Hemingway at last Thursday evening’s meeting. She said the course — due to take place next month — was not compulsory but hoped it would prove useful. It is currently only on offer to town councillors. Ms Hemingway said she was aware that a number of complaints from Keighley councillors were reported to the national Standards Board of England. And coming to 2014, in the Keighley News Thursday 17 July we read of the mayor, Cllr Graham Mitchell, asking for the councils critics, sorry, that should read “fiercest critics” to act responsibly. OPPONENTS of Keighley Town Council are to be allowed to film meetings following a law change. But town mayor Graham Mitchell has called on the council’s “fiercest critics” to act responsibly when broadcasting footage. The following are some, but not all, comments sent in emails by certain Keighley town councillors to members of the public, yes, those `critics ` of the council. Dick head Who do you think you are, take you BMP views and shove them where the sun don’t shine. There is no room in this Country for your kind. Australia is welcome to you and your kind. You represent no one other than your own ego and mummys fascist agenda. Your Troglodyte group is using shameful tactics, Your tactics to subvert democracy would be applauded by Hitler. Not sure the above comments would be seen as acting responsibly and in keeping with the Nolan Principles of Public Life, but hey, we are dealing with Keighley town council, what else should we expect, from a council that is under investigation from the external auditors, is calling on its “fiercest critics” to act responsibly, while the same council is responsible for the town having a fifty year debt, and a civic centre losing over £200,000 per year. Is it any wonder Keighley council amasses critics as fast as its civic centre creates a deficit.
