While not QUITE old enough to have watched Star Blazers on TV in - TopicsExpress

While not QUITE old enough to have watched Star Blazers on TV in the 1970s, Im certainly aware of Space Battleship Yamato and its place among the classics of anime. Ive just finished going through the modern update to the series and was very impressed at the straight-up sci-fi awesomeness that was presented. The basics of the story and original anime design is still there, but updated with CGI and a fluid, uniform look from episode to episode. The characters are thankfully updated to a modern era as well - the original had Yuki Mori as the ONLY female crewperson on the Yamato, giving rise to many a joke of her real purpose aboard ship over the years... Thankfully this version balances things out a lot, but for some reason ONLY the female crew wear skin-tight uniforms while the males have looser ones (in the original, everyone except the captain had skin-tight suits). The result is a fair amount of fan service, but Im okay with it in light of the great story that is presented. Heres the opening. A movie which goes into the original series second story arc is due out soon, and Ill be looking forward to it!
