While some people consider Being in love to be the eighth wonder of the world it is really like a conversion expirience. And much like any conversion expirience, for example, being Born Again in the religious sense or crossing over into a fraternity or sorority, it is marked by a sense of euphoria and elation, the feeling of being someone new, the open, easy invitation to view an old world in a new way, a sense of invincibility. It is also marked by an inability to find or even locate anything remotely resembling a balanced perspective about ones new status or state of being or mate. Try to get a born again Christian to talk about anything other than Christianity or to get a neophyte to see anything remotely critical in their new fraternal or sororal home or a person newly smitten to find anything wrong with the object of their affections. Try, I dare you. Its all part of the conversion expirience which slowly fades back to a form of reasonableness in time, for most. But as any person of a faith tradition will tell you, accepting the faith is the easy part, living the reality of that faith consistently and with fidelity to the core values of that faith is hard work. And if you are going to continue to grow in the faith while maintaining the same dedication and passion that cause you committed yourself to it, you need discipline. Running into cupid on the Damascene road may convert you to the fairh of Being In Love, but is not enough. For as we know Faith without works is dead. Its the faith part of being in love that comes easy, but the work part not so much. Relationships are hard work is a refrain we hear and use most often. But do we really get it?
