While the Keystone Pipeline bill failed, the House of Reps quietly - TopicsExpress

While the Keystone Pipeline bill failed, the House of Reps quietly tried to pass another bill which would reconfigure the EPAs scientific advisory board so as to not allow environmental advocacy groups to have a voice. Burgess, (a Texas Rep) said that the current set up excludes industry experts, but not officials for environmental advocacy groups, which isnt true- industry experts have always spoken- environmental advocacy groups just disproved the industry experts. The bill’s opponents point out that when it comes to scientific studies, there’s no better people to advise government regulators than the scientists who actually carried out the work. In other words, academic scientists who know the most about a subject can’t weigh in, but experts paid by corporations who want to block regulations can, wrote Andrew A. Rosenberg. Mcgovern said “I get it, you don’t like science, and you don’t like science that interferes with the interests of your corporate clients. But we need science to protect public health and the environment.” The bill wasnt likely to pass, and even if it had Obama had threatened to veto it. However the point isnt about the bill passing or not, its about how people deal with things in this country...
