While wiring up some plugs I thought I would explain to the people - TopicsExpress

While wiring up some plugs I thought I would explain to the people that purchase them a few tips on how to get the best performance out of a couple. The Darters I have laid out in the type of pattern they will swim in moderate to heavy current. In these conditions just cast and reel and you will get this type of retrieve. These plugs really shine when you have rips that have balls of dense water that the plug runs into. In slower currents or when you are losing your tide - I have had great success in reeling for a few cranks then reeling for 3 or 4 cranks fast, then normal again for few. Another method is to reel fast for 5 or 6 cranks then stop the plug dead. The hits usually come as you begin to reel again. These tricks will give the plug darting action even when there is no current present. 2nd is the Jetty Swimmer. I have has a couple guys tell me that they did not like the plug because they could not feel it “Thumping” while retrieving. This plug was not designed to be a loud pulsating plug in the water like my Cigars or even Classics can be tuned to do. The Jetty Swimmers are what I call a surprise plug. They swim with a very subtle swim that lets them slide through the water and I feel that they catch the bass off guard which creates the strike. When fishing them you only need tension on the line and they will swim. Slow in the dark has been the best although I have caught on them using a Jerk Bait type retrieve during the day and night. Others have had great success with a 4 crank, let the plug float, 4 crank approach. Try them during daylight and you will see what I describe. Remember, your buck tails that you swim over rocks and sluggos also are not “Thumping” lures and they have proven themselves time and time again. You do not always need a plug that does this to fool bass. I’m not saying that plugs with an aggressive swim do not work, just that many times a more stealthy approach proves productive. Finally I would like to just add that years ago I was one of the guys that got to fish all of the time. I have always been the kind of person that hates to not get it done when fishing. No matter which of the many states I have been too for stripers. I used to have a place down at the shore and would fish all night every weekend and holiday from April till November. I do not have that amount of time to fish these days but I still remember what it was like to not have the proper tools to get it done when you only had the weekend to fish. I truly believe that I am giving you the best tools that I can make to make sure you have the best chance for success. I am not doing this to make as much money as possible or to sell as many plugs as I can. I want to be part of your fishing trips even if I’m not there. I just wanted to post this since I do not include instructions in my packages and also to state my motivation. I also added a pic of my very first plug that was made in 2008 I believe. My first plugs were made using the patterns and actions of the companies from the early 1900’s and I made them for about a year before my first Metal Lip plug. In closing, I’m looking forward to this upcoming season and hoping you guys have a great year whether you are a customer or not. CCW
