Whites Peak Fire Update – 6/14/13 – 8:30 am June 14, 2013 by Dan Ware0 Comments Situation: The Fire is burning in Northeast New Mexico on State and Private land. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity overnight slowed down the spread and the intensity of the fire. Ground and air resources will work today to build and maintain containment lines ahead of the fire. The Pecos Zone Type III incident management team will take command of the fire later today. Scouts and staff utilizing campsites at the southern edge of the Philmont Scout Ranch have been relocated to other campsites on the property as a precaution. Incident Name: White’s Peak Start Date & Time: 6-13-2013 11:20 Start Location: 10 miles NE of Ocate, NM/ 14 Miles Southwest of Cimarron, NM Cause of Fire: Lightning Area Vegetation: Ponderosa Pine, Mixed Conifer Acres Burned: 900+ estimated acreage Ownership(s): Private Structures Threatened: 3- SE of Fire, 1- out-building, 1-Cabin 3 miles North of Fire Head Structures Burned:0 Evacuations (Y or N & #): NO % Contained:0 Temperature: 65 Relative Humidity: 33 Wind Speeds: 3 Wind Direction: SW Condition of Fire: Main fire is burning to the N-NE and was making short lived runs with isolated Group torching and long range spotting yesterday. Good Relative Humidity recoveries and decrease in temperature were seen overnight which aided in a decrease in active fire behavior and fire growth.
