Who Will the Oakland Raiders Keep on their 2015 Roster? Reggie - TopicsExpress

Who Will the Oakland Raiders Keep on their 2015 Roster? Reggie McKenzie said in Jack Del Rios presser that the Raiders wont have as much turnover as they have had in the last two years. The Raiders could have the most cap space in the NFL according to OverTheCap. They currently sit 2nd behind the Jaguars, but if they end up cutting Matt Schaub, Lamar Woodley and Maurice Jones-Drew the Raiders could be closer to $70 million in cap space. With a full draft coming up and the Raiders keeping more of their own players for the 2015 season Oakland will have less holes to fill via free agency and more money to do it. This offseason is their opportunity to turn the Raiders into a better and deeper team and perhaps bring them back into contention. So how many roster spots will need replaced for the 2015 season? Here is who I think the Raiders bring back from their current roster. Quarterbacks Derek Carr, Matt McGloin Running Backs Latavius Murray, Darren McFadden, Marcel Reece, Jamize Olawale Wide Receivers James Jones, Rod Streater, Andre Holmes, Brice Butler Tight Ends Mychal Rivera, Nick Kasa Offensive Line Donald Penn, Menelik Watson, Gabe Jackson, Autsin Howard, Stefen Wiziewski, Khalif Barnes, Kevin Boothe Defensive Line Justin Tuck, Antonio Smith, Justin Ellis, Shelby Harris, CJ Wilson, Stacy McGee, Benson Mayowa, Linebackers Sio Moore, Khalil Mack, Miles Burris, Safeties Charles Woodson, Tyvon Branch, Brandian Ross, Jonathan Dowling Cornerbacks DJ Hayden, TJ Carrie, Keith McGill, Chimdi Chekwa, Taiwan Jones Special Teams Sebastian Janikowski, Marquette King, Jon Condo These players are my best guess for the guys that I think will most likely be kept. That would be a total of 42 players carried over for the 2015 season. That number could be lower as 5-10 of the guys I listed may not be brought back, however I think it is unlikely that Oakland will look to replace 20 players this offseason. If they add six of their draft picks to the roster the number of free agents needed will be anywhere from 6-14. Oakland added 11 new veteran players using $36 million during the 2014 offseason. Oakland could add the same number of players in 2015 using $50 million dollars or more, but the quality of each player may be better. Which of the players listed above do you think will be gone and how many new players do you believe the Raiders need to add for the 2015 season? Many feel the Raiders will stay away from top players, but if you do the math and assess the roster youll find that going after the top free agent talent in 2015 makes sense.
