Who is John Galt? -- a guest speaker at Microsoft last week asked - TopicsExpress

Who is John Galt? -- a guest speaker at Microsoft last week asked the audience what book that quote came from..i was the only one who responded...which made me think…I am only, somewhat, well read. but how does an audience of 70+- people, today, mostly our youth, not recognized that quote? I have read, and sometimes suffered through, The Wealth of Nations, On the Origin of Species, The Communist Manifesto, the Bible, Atlas Shrugged, along with others, many translated…and mostly, all of what Asimov, Vonnegut, Thoreau, London, Service, Heinlein, Tolkien, Rand, Rice, and others, have written during the total of their careers… I dont read books like I did in my youth. Today, I read email, whitepapers, and I read a set of blogs and news sources daily, like how we used to read, the Sunday Times, every morning. Perhaps someday, I will have time to return to the books again….but I hope that our youth, today, reads books, and that the Internet hasnt stolen this experience of learning and enjoyment away from them. TV was the brain cancer of my youth. The good of the Internet is that it can bring all of this literary greatness to the world…but unfortunately, its still too hard to sort out the brain-cancer of the Internet before it hits your desktop.
