Who needs comedians on TV?.... Back in 2005, a federal study found that Tempe didn’t have enough affordable housing for the deaf. So the government helped build a 75-unit apartment building, specially designed to accommodate the deaf. It worked: it’s 90 percent filled with deaf seniors. But now, the Department of Housing and Urban Development has decided that it’s a violation of civil rights laws to discriminate against non-deaf people. So they want the number of deaf residents limited to 18 percent of the units specially built to accommodate the deaf. Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake is trying to negotiate a solution, but he calls it the most ridiculous thing he’s heard in a while. They need to leave the deaf in Arizona alone and deal with the dumb in Washington.
