Why Rosie ODonnell wont be going to see the new James Franco flick The Interview Hackers behind the Sony cyber attack vow to carry out 9/11-style attacks on theaters that show the Franco-Seth Rogen comedy 17 DECEMBER 2014 | BY GREG HERNANDEZ Dont expect to see Rosie ODonnell standing in line to buy tickets to the new James Franco-Seth Rogen comedy The Interview which opens in theaters on 24 December. Threats of 9/11-type attacks have been made against theaters that show the film - threats from the hackers behind a major cyber attack against Sony, the studio releasing the movie. ODonnell said on The View today that shes too scared to go to a theater. How many people would not got to see it because of this threat? O’Donnell asked the studio audience of The View. Because I wouldn’t go. I wouldn’t. It’s not worth it to me to see a movie that’s supposedly not even that funny. The films plot includes an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and it is believed that the hackers are connected to that country’s regime. ODonnells co-host on The View hopes others arent afraid to see the film. If you want to see it, don’t let some goon in North Korea change your plans, she said. Whoever does decide to see the film, it might be a little tougher to find as several theater chains have already pulled it from their schedules. Update: Sony announced Wednesday afternoon that is has canceled release of the film. The studio said in a statement: In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers. Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like. We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public. We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome. https://youtube/watch?v=KpyVENBPj5c
