Now the latest “big-name” to take on the challenge is the world’s second richest man, Bill Gates.In a carefully executed plan involving a metal structure and ropes, the 58-year-old Microsoft owner dunked icy water over himself after being nominated by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ was launched last month in New Zealand as a way to raise money for cancer. Soon after the craze was taken up in the US to bring more awareness to ASL or Lou Gherig’s disease.Challengers typically film themselves pouring a bucket of icy water over their heads, before which they nominate others to do the same. Those elected have 24 hours to complete the challenge or, presumably, they face mass social disapproval.However that didn’t stop a recently named challenger—US President Barack Obama from declining his nomination by former Syracuse basketballer Carmelo Anthony, opting instead to give a direct donation to the cause.Other celebrities to accept the watery challenge include Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, Jimmy Fallon, Conan o’Brien, Martha Stewart and Aaron Rogers.Watch the video for a glimpse of some of the best so far.
