Why cant a felon ex-offender who has made a mistake, be allowed to change people? People who admit to criminal activity, but were never caught, are applauded for changing, but people who get caught are never afforded the opportunity to change......EVER, and are shamed and denied the ability to change for the rest of their lives. It is about treating everyone with the inherent dignity and respect they deserve. When someone is left without hope of restoring their standing in the community, society is limiting that person’s ability to function as a contributing, accountable and self-sufficient citizen. Excluding someone from a clear and just path to restoration takes away that person’s incentive to transform his life, take responsibility for his own affairs, and provide for his own family — three things that should be applauded, not condemned, by those in the halls of government. Removing these punitive barriers will reduce government dependence and position these men and women to achieve financial independence. What happened to America, the land of second chances? That was and never will be true.
