Why does the personal aspect of IP matter? Often industry and IP experts become too focused on the financial importance of protecting IP. Where is the personal impact? Copyright law was developed and has evolved as a means to incentivise creation: art, music, design, writing, etc. Much of the world’s economy runs on the capitalist principle, and those who create art and artistic works have a right to benefit financially from that work (or at least control who else benefits financially). If their work is copied or shared illegally, without payment, how can the artist afford to continue creating? Why should they bother, if they are repeatedly uncredited?
