Why is Zakir Naik / Farhat Hashmi / Salafees Criticized I met a young man in Nigeria, who is living in Lagos but comes from the Northern Muslim Hausa background. In my process of getting to know him, I once touched upon the subject the Late Sheikh Abu Bakar Tahiru Gumi (may Allah taala enlighten his grave). This young man, immediately spring into action and said, there are too many Muslim groups, criticizing, arguing and fighting amongst each other. I try to keep away from all of this and stay with the truth. So, I asked him as to what did he consider as the truth? His reply was, I educate myself through the youtube, internet, lectures of scholars like Zakir Naik. He also indicated to me that despite the fact that he comes from a Maliki background, that he was actually just a Muslim and he does not waste his time in following anyone but the messenger of Allah (sallahu alayhi wa sallam). So, as I stood praying next to him I noticed that he would pray his salaat, but only the Fard (obligatory part of Salaat). He would not raise his hands after the salaat and make any dua. When I asked him to lead the salaat, he would make sure he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with me. However, I noticed one thing very good in this young man. He was open to listening and his Maliki training still left in him a desire to look at things in a broad minded way, rather than in a constipated way. So, after a few weeks I told him that It is narrated that Abdullah Ibn Zubair (radhiallahu anhu) saw a man raising his hands and making dua before completing his salah. When the person had completed his salah, Abdullah Ibn Zubair (radhiallahu anhu) went up to him and said: Verily, Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) used to only raise his hands and make dua after completing his salah (the narrators of this Hadith are all trustworthy — Majmauz Zawaaid, vol. 1, pg. 169). There are two types of Ahaadith: (1) Qauli - for example Qala Qala rasullullahi sallahu alayhi wa sallam... (2) Fali - an action done by him The above Athar clearly captures the fal (action) of Rasullullah sallahu alayhi wa sallam. So, if somone does not want to accept the words of Abdullah ibn Zubair (radhiallahu anhu), they will be rejecting the words of Rasullullah sallahu alayhi wa sallam (more or less) follow my way and the way of my companions - ma ana alayhi wa ashaabi. It is sad that a young man had been re-programmed by the Salafees not to make dua. Taking away the benefits of asking Allah taala because of their short sighted and constipated understanding of Islam. Zakir Naik, Farhat Hashmi and the Salafees are all amongst the class of Muslims who are giving dawah by removing the spirituality of Islam. I heard a youtube video where Dr.Zakir Naiks daughter is reading a Naat/Nasheed in English Language by disrespecting the messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa sallam. I have a new post that shows why CRITICISM is important, because if we do not speak against the constipated understanding of Zakir Naik, Farhat Hashmi and Salafees, we will be committing injustice to Islam as they embrace a new and deviant approach to misguiding people.
