Why stop at $15 dollars an hour? Why not make the minimum wage $20 an hour; or even $100 an hour! Since raising the minimum wage doesnt result in anyone ever being fired, or not hired in the first place, maybe even $1000 an hour!!! If you think these suggestions are impractical, then I have to ask who gets hurt when minimum wages are raised, even a little. Thomas Sowell, and other economists, have long argued that raising minimum wages has resulted in higher unemployment for young black males who find it far more difficult to get that critical first job. I am old enough to remember that once upon a time, gas station attendants would pump your gas and check your oil for you, when movie theaters had ushers who would help customers find a seat while keeping disruptions in the theater to a minimum. No one would have thought to suggest that such jobs were unimportant or not worth doing simply because they couldnt pay enough to support a family. Such entree level jobs are no more, because of minimum wage legislation. Apparently a great many people believe there is more dignity in never getting that critical first job at all, regardless of the wishes of those looking for work at whatever wages they can find.
