Why your 40th reunion is way more fun than your 10th You’re still here. What the heck? The 10th reunion still has residue of “invincible” from high school. At the 40th you know better. Phil Alexander’s memorial tribute to our classmates was moving. Life is short. It’s later than you think….reach out. At the 10th reunion you’re ready to fly to the moon by the 40th you come to your senses. Even the people most likely to succeed have lost something: hair, a waistline, a marriage, a job, a spouse, a child, a fortune. Or gained something they hadnt counted on: an underwater mortgage, 50 pounds, a health scare etc. These things make you humble. Most people are nicer at 58 than they were at 28. When youre 28, 18 doesnt seem so young and youre still right about everything. When youre 58, well.... It’s awesome how people who hadnt really spoken much to one another in high school had ended up in some great conversations. Am I right? So when your invitation arrives for the next reunion, just send your money in and go. If it turns out to be a mistake, you can always leave. But if its not, it could be the beginning of some beautiful new old friendships with people that you share roots with of a time in your life that is a lasting memory. A memory with people that can sing Bachman Turner Overdrive’s “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” with you in the elevator.
