Will you help a brave human rights activist in Sri Lanka? Sandya - TopicsExpress

Will you help a brave human rights activist in Sri Lanka? Sandya Eknaligoda has been campaigning to get the Sri Lankan government to account for the whereabouts of her husband, the journalist/cartoonist Prageeth Eknaligoda, ever since he disappeared shortly after leaving work on Jan. 24, 2010. Two days earlier, he had published an article critical of President Rajapaksa. Sandya believes that the Sri Lankan government is responsible for his disappearance. Amnesty International agrees with her. Thousands of people have been disappeared by the Sri Lankan government or their agents in recent decades. Will you stand with Sandya in her fight for justice? Heres how you can help: First, go to tinyurl/8ywhkuk (or click on the link below) and send an online letter to the Sri Lankan government demanding they account for Prageeths whereabouts and hold accountable those responsible for his disappearance. Second, participate in a photo action for Prageeth. Create a sign saying Where is Prageeth? (or the equivalent in a language other than English). If you want, you could use a sign we have for Prageeth on page 21 of the Sri Lanka Activist Toolkit (the toolkit is at amnestyusa.org/pdfs/SriLankaToolkitSummer2014.pdf) Take a photo of yourself, your friends, family, etc. holding the sign and share it as widely as possible. If youre on Twitter, send it to President Rajapaksa (@PresRajapaksa) and to me (@jmccdon). Also, please put the photo in the body of an email (and not as an attachment) and send the email message to [email protected]. The photo would then automatically show up on a Flickr page that Ive set up for this action (see flickr/photos/whereisprageeth). The subject line of the email will appear as the title for the photo, so please compose the subject line for the email with that in mind. You might indicate the place and date or give some message of solidarity . Id like to get as many photos as possible on the Flickr page by next January 24 (the fifth anniversary of Prageeths disappearance). Ill plan to send all the photos to the Sri Lankan government at that time, to show our support for Sandya in her campaign for Prageeth. For more information, theres a very moving video interview that Amnesty did with Sandya at amnestyusa.org/srilanka. Thanks for any help you can give on this. Take care.
