William Patt memoir snippet where he records building a stone building for Joe Sherwood in 1886. If Sherwood was contracting buildings out in 1886, he was probably already living on Henrys Lake in 1885. Several local Island Park histories claim Sherwood came to IP in the 1890s. This is a primary source, however, and will trump all other historical sources. William Patt eventually homesteaded on the Madison River over Targhee Pass in Montana. His ranch is now beneath Hebgan Lake, near West Yellowstone. Patt also worked on a couple of hotels for George W. Marshall, including Marshalls Hotel, subsequently known as the Firehole Hotel in the Lower Geyser Basin.
