Wilton’s secures match funding for HLF grant Wilton’s Music Hall in London has raised £600,000 in match funding, which means it can now submit an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the remaining money needed to carry out repair works on the building. If successful in its bid to HLF for £1.8 million, the venue will be able to begin its second phase of capital works. This will include repairing the five Georgian houses that contain the front of house areas and the Mahogany Bar. There are also plans to restore the derelict top floor for use as a new participation and learning studio and archive, and also to increase access to the building for disabled users. The venue has already carried out the first £1.1 million phase of its capital project, which involved restoring its grand hall by fitting a new roof, ventilation equipment, and improving heating, sound-proofing and electrics. Once the entire project has been completed, the arts venue hopes to introduce a new programme of participation and learning, focussing on the heritage of Wilton’s and the surrounding area. Wilton’s Music Hall artistic director Frances Mayhew said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have had such terrific support so far, but now we really need a major injection of support to help us save this building before it falls down. The Heritage Lottery Fund plays a vital role in saving buildings of historic importance like ours and we are delighted to have this opportunity to work with them to try and secure full funding. Now all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.”
