Windhorse Sanctuary welcomes Manolito, a 6 year old Paso Fino - TopicsExpress

Windhorse Sanctuary welcomes Manolito, a 6 year old Paso Fino gelding. Manolito suffered from severe orthopedic issues and after extensive treatment the vets told his owner that he should not be ridden. He was donated to a youth ranch out west along with several other horses where they seemed happy to have him for the children to groom and lead. It seemed ideal for Manolito, but months later the horsesowners were contacted by someone who saw that the horses were not being fed or cared for. Some of the mares were missing and the remaining horses were skin and bones. The owners rallied together and hired someone to transport them back to Florida. Manolito and the other horses were in terrible shape and traumatized by their experience. It has taken several months of good care to get him on the path to recovery. His owner has been devastated by what happened to him...her intentions were for him to have the idyllic life presented to her by the people at the youth ranch. It is a miracle that she was able to rescue him. She realized that her farm up north was not a good place for him because he did not fare well in cold weather so we agreed to bring him to the sanctuary and he shared a ride from Ocala with Estrella. Manolito still has a lot of weight to gain and we intend to help him build the muscle necessary to keep his neck and back pain free. He is very intelligent, can figure things out quickly, including how to open stalls and the hay room! He is frisky and fun-loving and is making friends with Hugo, Layla, our blind horse KC and Estrella. He is very sweet and seems to be getting the most out of every day here. We enjoy his loving and playful spirit. Welcome, Manolito!
