Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary Kitty Rhoades will go on medical leave soon to recover from hip replacement surgery. In a statement, Rhoades said: “This was an extremely difficult decision for me to make...at the urging of my family I have decided not to delay this surgery any longer.” She said other agency officials will run the agency in her absence, and she will be consulted “as my recovery allows.” She added: “It is my hope to return to my post in Madison by the end of July. I had wanted to take a vacation this summer, but this isn’t exactly how I planned to do it.” A former Assembly member, Rhoades became secretary of the agency in February.
