Wisdom, Knowledge, and Much More Read 2 Chronicles 1:2-13 God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people—I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!” (2 Chronicles 1:11-12) Reflect Solomon could have focused on himself as God’s chosen king, but instead he focused on God’s people and God’s purposes. Solomon knew he had a huge responsibility to serve and lead God’s people. He knew that God had entrusted him with the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Solomon realized it was beyond his own power to govern well. He also knew that his own good fortune or his military prowess wouldn’t give God’s people what they needed. He asked the Lord to continue being faithful and to give him wisdom and knowledge for the sake of his people. We don’t have the responsibility to serve and lead hundreds of thousands. But we might have the responsibility to lead one. Even this requires great wisdom, something only God can give. God desires that we care for others. It’s as important as loving God (Mark 12:29-31). The skills and abilities God gives us are for fulfilling this purpose of serving others. “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other” (1 Corinthians 12:7). Respond The gifts God gives us are not for our own benefit but for serving others. God blesses us so we can bless others.
