With Biggin Hill closing early on a Sunday and unfavourable winds - TopicsExpress

With Biggin Hill closing early on a Sunday and unfavourable winds meaning that Matt Guthmiller would not arrive before closedown; we had to come up with a new destination. It was decided that Matt would go to Southend airport at the mouth of the River Thames where it meets the North Sea. This was one of the few aiports that met the criteria for the arrival of a foreign piston aircraft whilst at the same time having good public transport connections to London. It also meant holding back on booking the hotel in London for Matt...mainly because we didnt know exactly where he would land until an hour or so before he decided on Southend. We watched as hotels suddenly became sold out...probably because of businessmen arriving for the working week. But in the end, we think we found Matt a great hotel, slap bang where he wanted to be (by the sights) with a great view and great food...and a king size bed :-) Sleep well young man, you have a busy 3 days ahead of you...say hi to the queen ;-) (the photos show Southend Airport, the alternative airport used; The view from the hotel looking over London and possibly the bed Matt will be in tonight, or at least one like it)
