With great power, comes great responsibility. ~ Spiderman Its time to stop arguing over the tragic death of #MichaelBrown. Regardless of your opinion on the situation/outcome...lets examine what it takes to be a police officer in the first place. Regardless where you land on the recently highlighted white-on-black police shootings spectrum, lets take a step back and examine the commonality----besides RACE----in these and other less public complaints. Let us remember that news is no longer just about getting the word out, its a multi-million dollar industry based on ratings! So, take a step back, breathe deeply and consider this: Could it be that police officers simply are not properly prepared to do their best? Could poor education and training be at the forefront of a failing system? Being a protector of peace pays little, and most often requires only 3-4 months of official training. Lets stop debating over what has happened, and begin channeling that energy into insisting better education, practical experience and closer psychological examination for potential officers. Lets recruit more men and women--especially those of color, race and creed. Lets even the playing field and ensure only those worthy qualify to be bestowed with so much power. Lastly, if anyone of us has a problem with law enforcement, STOP COMPLAINING! Put yourself out on the front lines and see if you do any better. Or, better yet, because not all are cut out for that line of work, GET INVOLVED. Find out what it takes to improve the system and make positive changes in the future. We all have plenty of time to work the social media channels to death (example here), have any of us spent 1/10 of that effort seeing how to peacefully impact change?
