With the passing of my grandfather still fresh in our hearts, we received news this morning of the passing of my great uncle, Gene Knieriem, Pops brother. What a special person he was to me! I always enjoyed talking to him. He was my great uncle, but he was a Great Uncle, if you know what I mean. Uncle Gene was such a good singer. Music is a Knieriem tradition and talent that goes back at least several generations that I know of. Singing and playing music is what we do when we get together. Its in our blood. So today as I was thinking about all of this and feeling heavy-hearted to lose yet one more precious family member, so many songs ran through my head. Old hymns like How Beautiful Heaven Must Be and When Ive Gone the Last Mile of the Way, I Will Meet You In The Morning, In The Sweet Bye and Bye, and Wont It Be Wonderful There. Songs that I can imagine hearing Uncle Gene sing. Then I thought of a not-so-old song from about a decade ago. I thought of this one when Pop passed away, too. Its called Life is a Dream by Anointed. A dream lasts just a few fleeting few moments in the mind while we are sleeping. Even though a dream may seem like it was a long one, in reality it was just a split second of time to flash through the subconscious mind. Dreams only happen at certain times during our sleep cycle. Then we awake. And at times the details of the dream are vivid. Sometimes the details are foggy and vague in our mind. Eternity can seem like that in our minds. The details of THIS life are so vivid to us because this is where we are now. Heaven can seem so vague and foggy to us. We are living our life to attain a place where weve never been and dont know much about. And if were not careful, we can lose sight of the reason and purpose of our life. We can lose sight of the fact that Heaven is our destination, and this world is just a temporary location. The Bible says that life is but a vapor. In a flash it is gone. Heaven is truly the reality. And yet its so incomprehensible to my finite mind that the moment we close our eyes in sleep to this life we awake to that heavenly world! The moment we close our eyes to the faces of our loved ones, we open them to the face of God! The Bible says that we see through a glass darkly but then face to face! Also, according to the Bible, we will stand before Him and hear Him say one of two things: Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joys of the Lord! OR Depart from me, ye worker of iniquity. I never knew you! Those are the two options! More and more each day I become more and more aware of the reality of Heaven and the peace, joy, and beauty that awaits those who dont lose sight of our goal! Whether I go by the way of the grave or Im here on this earth when He comes, I want to hold on to the end to wake up to the face of God and hear Him say, Well done!
