With today being World Suicide Prevention Day , we need to realize something. Depression is the same as Cancer, Aids, and H. I. V., in one way, they are Invisible . On the face of it, you wont be able to tell, if someone is suffering from the Illness. Youll have to be around them, a lot, and get to know them, get them to open up, before youll notice, or figure it out. Having someone, to talk to, is a massive help, because were not keeping it all inside, and bottling it up. For too long, Societys reaction, to Depression, and Suicide has driven sufferers to do just that, keep it to ourselves. We dont want to be, like this. We want to be happy, to be alive, and to live our lives, but how were feeling can sometimes, in fact most times prevent us from doing this. Were still being told to snap out of it , to get over ourselves , to stop being selfish / self centered . How you react / deal with someone you know, or even being depressed / suicidal yourself, could be the difference between us remaining alive, and taking our own Life. The difference between having someone to talk things through, and having to keep it all inside could make all important. Were no different then people who arent depressed / suicidal. Were Parents, Grandparents, Children, Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Grandchildren, Employed, Unemployed, Disabled, Able Bodied. You could be living, with one of us, going to School, with one of us, working, with one of us, serving, one of us, being served, by one of us, representing, one of us, being represented, by one of us. It doesnt matter. Nobody is Safe , or Immune from it, as like any Disease, or Illness, it doesnt discriminate, in any way, shape, or form. It doesnt agree to kick in, at a certain time of the day, or if youre not doing something, it just strikes. Its time that we treated it like any other Illness, and those suffering like any other sufferer.
