Women in Film & Television Vancouver will be screening our film Marker of Change at 5pm on Jan 17th at SFU Woodwards. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, WIFTV presents this inspiring retrospective selection of 18 films by BC women directors. womeninfilm.ca/25th_anniversary_retrospective.html Marker of Change: The Story of the Womens Monument On December 6, 1989, 14 young women at Montréals Ecole Polytechnique were systematically hunted down and shot to death in what became known as the Montréal Massacre. Within hours, everyone knew the name of the murderer but few would remember the names of the women. As Canadian denied the connection between this horrific mass murder of women, a band of Vancouver feminists set out to create Canadas first national monument to name and remember the 14 women. From the moment of its inception, the Womens Monument project-- was dogged by controversies, but when its dedication hit the media ‘all hell broke loose. The inscription, for all women murdered by men sparked a country-wide debate.
