World Sight Day Month Eye Care Awareness Month (ECAM), held - TopicsExpress

World Sight Day Month Eye Care Awareness Month (ECAM), held annually from the 23rd September – 20th October, is a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of Eye Health. The theme for this year’s campaign is: “Universal Eye Health – Get your eyes tested”. International World Sight Day takes place during this month on the 9 October. The South African Optometric Association (SAOA), will be attempting an eye screening marathon on World Sight Day, 9 October to see how many eye screenings SAOA optometrists can perform in one day. This marathon will take place nationally in all SAOA optometry practices that are willing to offer the public an eye screening for free. If you are interested in being part of this campaign, please send us your details (form attached) and we will send you an eye marathon pack consisting of an A3 window poster PDF for your practice, plus a list to record the number of eyes screened. Please note due to the Post office strike, all material will be either a PDF or in a picture format. We will compile a list of optometrists taking part at the SAOA reception for callers interested and callers will be given their nearest participating optometrists details. The SAOA will be flighting an advertisement on community radio stations, will send out press releases and we are hoping to be on Morning live on the 9th October to inform the public of the free screenings ( not a full eye examination ) only at participating SAOA optometric practices. After the event we would require you to send us a list of all the patients that you have screened on the 9 October, plus any photos. The aim of this campaign is to educate the public on eye care and when making an appointment with an optometrist to use an SAOA optometrist If you need further information, please contact Cathy Franconi [email protected] or 011 805 4517
