Wow!! What a day. Where do I start. Spent two hours yesterday arvo washing and polishing the Hog then wake up at 4.30am buzzing from excitement only to hear rain in the rooftop. Leave home at 6.30am. No rain but wet roads which spoiled the shiny bike. Oh well! Then to the domain to see a veritable sea of motorcycles. After the moving ceremony accompanied by bagpipes we were off on the Cahill Expressway and over the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the sun shimmered on the water below and helicopters buzzing above us. I had my earphones in listening to music at the time and just as we crossed the bridge the iconic Icehouse song Great Southern Land came on. How appropriate I thought. Every intersection was blocked by the HWP cops and we had a free passageway through every intersection as we wove our way out of the City. As we passed the Jim Affleck bridge at Campbelltown there was a massive crowd there with the chopper buzzing again overhead filming the proceedings and with commissioned officers saluting us as we passed. I must say at that moment I shed a veiled tear for you Jimmy beneath my helmet. You are sorely missed mate. Next stop was the Police Academy at Goulburn for a barbecue feed for lunch before heading south to the Australian Federal Police Training Centre where we all gathered before heading to the National Wall of Remembrance for one of the most moving experiences I have ever encountered and the bagpipes sealed the deal. Then after a quick chat with our Commissioner Skip it was off to the Aria for the night. Currently at the Lemongrass Thai Restaurant. Coming home via my birth town Braidwood tomorrow. Food and company us excellent by the way. Woof!!
