Wow, this post is a hard one. As most of you know, I have recently switched from private practice into an academic position with Oklahoma State University. Since my transition happened during the summer, I was able to continue to see a large private clinic volume, and had multiple clinic days per week. As the academic year begins, however, my clinic days are going to be drastically reduced. As such, I have decided to personally not take any new OB patients until further notice, since it is becoming increasingly difficult to mesh clinic time with my academic duties, and give you the care you deserve. I honestly never thought I would have to post something like this. I have been blessed, however, with a very loyal and wonderful patient following, and feel that they deserve to know the truth about my situation. I personally feel that the best way to change medical care/practices is to start from the bottom up, and in my case, that means with medical student and resident education. I will still continue to take new GYN patients, and that includes preconception counseling/infertility as well. So...if youre thinking about becoming pregnant soon, my established patients will get first priority when (and it will!) my OB schedule opens up. In addition, the only way new doctors are going to get exposed to less interventional obstetrics is with experience! So if youre open to it, the residents I directly supervise have open OB schedules, and Im more than happy to help coordinate care with them. Since I started private practice, the response from the Tulsa birth community has been amazing. I have felt so welcomed and respected by the women of Tulsa (and their partners!), and will still continue to fight for person-centered medical care. I believe that birth has a healing power that no other area of medicine can match, and I will still be very active in the Obstetrical world in Tulsa. You deserve to be treated as person, and the hopes, dreams, and fears that drive you deserve to be respected and supported. Keep up the good fight, and know that Ill be fighting right there beside you.
