Wow, what a difference a day makes… I took a few days off to visit family and taste the chaos of urban living. I was nearly in two car crashes due to hasty and impatient drivers in the city. I enjoyed shopping and foods that I cannot experience where I live. And, I had delightful visits with family and friends. However, it is indeed good to be home. (I was unplugged…sorry my posts have been sparse.) Sadly, upon my return, I received some bad news. A friend has died…suddenly, of what some say was a “broken heart”. This man was not a friend until after I met him at one of my book signing events. There, he purchased No Regrets, My Love, went out to the parking lot and began reading it. He identified with the memoir so deeply that he came back inside to tell me and to thank me for sharing my story of loss. He had lost his ‘soulmate’ recently…and felt as if he was living the words I wrote on the pages… We had many conversations after that ‘chance’ meeting. Our married lives ran parallel with each other – there were uncanny similarities. We were married the same year and for the same number of years…and also chose not to have children. I was disappointed to hear of his sudden death…but the sorrow only affected me for a few moments. I felt sad that I lost someone I helped and could relate with…but then I spoke aloud and toasted him in honorary celebration of his going Home. Though he lived each day to the fullest, he missed his wife terribly. Since that sudden, unexpected, and devastating loss, he had a deep yearning to go Home, which I fully understood…perhaps you do too. I actually felt a little envious that he crossed over…he is reunited with his ‘soulmate’ now…and there are times, especially when I discover a friend has crossed over, that I wished I could go. We don’t get to choose. There is a divine plan in place. And in the meantime, we all must live to the best of our ability and trust that we, too, shall go Home – when we our departure is scheduled. In the meantime, be kind and loving to yourself, your family and friends, and the strangers you meet ‘by chance’. It all has healing power!
