Wushu tourney concludes, Mir distributes prizes TANGMARG, JUNE 17: Saying youth is our future, Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir today called upon the Youth Services and Sports Department to hold sports coaching programmes for students in different sports activities to channelize their talent. The Minister said this at the concluding function of a Wushu tournament here this afternoon. The tournament was organised by District Wushu Association Baramulla. About 300 participants attended the tournament. The Minister said that “we have to take initiatives to encourage the youth and provide them a platform to utilise their services for the betterment of nation”. He asked the youth to take active part in all sports activities as sound mind needs sound body. Appreciating the efforts of Wushu Association for providing maximum space for the girls in the championship, The Minister said that girls are shining in every field including sports. He cited the example of Sania Mirza and Sania Nehwal who have brought laurels to the country at global level in their respective games. He said that J&K girls have enormous potential and steps are underway to harness their capability in a right perspective. Mr. Mir asked the youth that the “world is yours and it is your choice how you shape the ideas for sustainable career for yourself and society”. “If you want to be on top of the world, use your time judiciously”, he maintained. Later the Minister distributed awards and mementos among the players who performed well during the tournament. During the tournament, MTM foundation School Chandilora bagged 21 gold, 19 sliver and 16 bronze medals. Similarly New convent School Malmoo Magam bagged 15 gold, 12 sliver and 11 bronze while as Tigers Academy of Wushu bagged 16 gold, 9 sliver and 15 bronze and Hafizullha sports Academy bagged 18 gold, 15 sliver and 14 bronze medals. President District Wushun Association Baramulla, Mr. Athar Sajad, General Secretary, Ms. Jabeena Akther and Joint Secretary Mr. Khursheed-ul- Alam Wani were also present on the occasion.
