YES IM A BIG GEEK . . . but Im also a financially challenged one. On my journey to become gainfully employed as a disabled person the biggest snag I ran into is COMCAST. All legitimate work from home jobs REQUIRED wired internet access, that means FIOS, broadband, satellite options would not do no matter the speed. Its a security issue. In my area Comcast rules as far as WIRED internet goes. They have the monopoly. Those of us with bad credit or previous uncollected debts from Comcast are to put it mildly SOL. 2 years ago I learned of the program called Internet Essentials and where families like mine could get internet access for $10 month with children who qualify for free lunch. WONDERFUL right? Wrong! If you had and outstanding bill you could not take advantage of the program and thus began my 2 year battle with Comcast as I disputed their billing from day one. UPDATE: GREAT NEWS! In Comcasts quest to monopolize the internet, the FTC step in and said they COULD NOT buy out Time Warner unless added something to the pot to sweeten the deal. Guess what the perk was? Offering amnesty to those who were not able to access the Internet Essentials program in the past due to outstanding bills and also to allow the program to continue which was due to end this year!
