YOUR PAST People like to put an indefinite statute of limitations on your past. Someone you were 15 years ago is who you will always be to some people...even if you changed 14 years ago. For some people your past is too recent for the change in you to count in their eyes. Ever hear the saying, Once a cheater, always a cheater? Well that just ignores that there is such a thing as repentance and how life changing a relationship with Christ can be. Or the crass self-righteous saying that, You cant change a whore into a housewife. Weve all heard that one and its partially true. YOU cant change anybody into anything virtuous or otherwise, but GOD does all the time. Im so glad God doesnt think the way we do. We can be a bunch of Pharisees sometimes. We stone and throw away so many people that God has dusted off and made new and forgiven. We hold things against people but God casts it away never to be remembered or brought up or thrown in their face again. His forgiveness is instant and is not revoked by what theyve done in the past. Just ask the thief on the cross. His past was decades long but in a moment, his past no longer mattered to Jesus. So who are you? By what authority do you condemn? Stop holding people hostage to their past. People do change and you should celebrate them when they do, not trip them up and tear them down with who they USED to be. We ALL have a past that Christ died for. JMO 2014
