Year 12 pupil Rachel McKeown has been awarded first place in Northern Ireland as a Royal British Legion Standard Bearer. Rachel only joined Cookstown branch of the Royal British Legion earlier this year and was immediately keen to join the standard bearer section. She trained weekly and in September was the youngest entrant in the Northern Ireland competition. The competition was judged by two representatives of the RBL from Great Britain in the presence of Mr George Black, Chairman of the Royal British Legion in Northern Ireland. This is a great achievement for Rachel and as a school community we extend hearty congratulations to her. Throughout the summer Rachel participated in numerous events across the province to commemorate the outbreak of the Great War and she will be involved in the Remembrance Day ceremony in Cookstown as well as the Festival of Remembrance in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. Rachel is a great example of the deportment, dignity and respect which we aspire to for all our pupils.
