Years ago we went to Yellowstone NP on a mission: to spread my mother and my grandfathers ashes (10 years after her death and a only couple after his). We ate handfuls of mushroom caps to open gateways to spirit worlds. Once the spores entered our bloodstream, we were able to see through eyes that saw no separation from every other living thing and ourselves. Everything was one. And every living thing seemed to know exactly why we were there too. Trees curtseyed as we approached, and they shared breaths with us - we breathing in what they breathed out, them breathing in what we breathed out. Creatures scurried to the trail and peeked over rocks at us, some even walked the trail alongside us. The planet lifted us up and set us back down with each of its own giant breaths. We could sense condolences and joy, as if the loss was known and our awareness was recognized. It was a funeral of sorts, a celebration of life. We were there for the closure of two peoples lives, experiencing the profound connectedness of all life and all death at all moments. We cried psilocybin tears, bluer than blood. ... That day changed us all forever. (Carlton Cullins, I think this video, in its own way, speaks to the day we climbed that mountain, threw ashes to the wind, and howled.)
